As part of the MAS UTD Theory Session, we had the privilege of hosting Kristiaan Borret, today’s BMA of Brussels. To pursuit the debate engaged with him, the participants of MAS UTD visited the exhibition Soft Power – The Brussels Way of Making the City at the S AM in Basel dedicated to BMA’s work. This exhibition explores Belgium’s evolution into a international hub for contemporary architecture and urban planning, as well as a pionneer in the production of a qualitative Baukultur. It highlights the conditions that have fostered a high-quality building culture in Brussels and sparked the involvement of a new generation of architects in its urban development—largely due to the unique role of the Bouwmeester Maître Architecte (BMA).
